For your fourth source, use information from either the open web, from a book, or use an additional databases source. The left column below has directions for how to search the library for a book. The right column below has advice for effective web searching. Use the previous tab (Source 3) to review the database searching information.

Evaluate Introduction

Evaluating information is all about making sure you're using information that is both appropriate and credible. Appropriate means it's the right kind of source for your needs. Credible means that the information is trustworthy or reliable. This page offer several different tips and tutorials you can use to learn how to identify credible information.

Google Search Tips

You can search the open web more efficiently using the following strategies.

Limit your search to a specific domain type or website using site: 

site:.gov
site:.edu
site:usnews.com

Find websites that have your search terms in the title using intitle:

intitle:"teen drivers"

Examples: 

intitle: "cell phone" site:.gov
intitle: texting site:theatlantic.com

W3 = World Wide Web (www)

  Who is responsible for the site?

  What kind of site is it?

  When was the site created?

  Where can you find more information?

  Why is this site here?

Find Books in Library Catalog

Library home page > Search box

  1. Start on the library home page
  2. Note that by default you are searching "Clark + Summit + articles"
  3. Sign in to see all the options and borrow books from other libraries

Use the features on the left bar to limit your searches to books, ebooks, articles, etc.

If you are signed in, you will have access to many full-text sources.
