"Some of these don't seem quite like zines..." you may say to yourself.
Our collection also includes chapbooks!
A chapbook is "part of a burgeoning do-it-yourself culture, and a growing part of independent publishing," similar to zines (Hahn 2009). Originally "these 'cheap books' (chap having an origin similar to the modern-day word cheap)" (Hahn 2009) were "a small, inexpensive stitched book or pamphlet formerly sold by...chapmen, in western Europe and in North America....The texts were mostly crude and anonymous, but they formed the major part of secular reading and now serve as a guide to the manners and morals of their times" (chapbook 1995).
